Habonim Volunteers Helped Make Community Cleanup Day a Success
Alison Fried writes: Last Sunday more than 40 members of our Habonim community came together to participate in OneBlock's inaugural service project. Volunteers of all ages (from toddlers to grandparents) cleaned up our streets from the 50's to the 70's on the West Side.
A highlight for many was the outpouring of appreciation from our neighbors who walked by and lovingly thanked us. We plan on scheduling another service day in the Spring. In the meantime, you can read more about the wonderful work being done by OneBlock here and if you are so moved, support their continued success with a donation.
Bender Fund
Habonim recently used Bender Fund assets to help provide Hanukkah food packages to elderly Holocaust survivors who are clients of Self Help Community Services. Self Help reports that recipients were most appreciative and wish to thank the members of Congregation Habonim for their generosity and kindness. The Bender Fund, created almost 50 years ago in conjunction with our Brotherhood, is dedicated to helping elderly, blind, and needy members of the Jewish community. Each year we help fund such food packages for Pesach, the High Holidays and Hanukkah.
Book Group
Our next book group meeting is Wednesday, January 12. We're reading House on Endless Waters by Emuna Elon.
High Holiday Appeal 5782/2021
Stronger Together The High Holiday Appeal is our annual fundraising campaign and Habonim’s main source of operating support beyond membership dues and tuition. Our fundraising goal, to exceed $120,000, will enable Habonim to continue to be a warm and welcoming full-service Conservative synagogue.
Congregation Habonim supports core Jewish values, including racial justice and dignity for all.
