Hands in a circleAdmissions Tours
Admissions tours are an important part of our admissions process.  Scheduled tours begin at 9 am with a meeting in our Conference Room, at which time Director Tina Lobel and Associate Director Ann Obsatz give a brief overview of our school, including our history, our educational philosophy, and our classes and age groupings, and describes a typical day at Habonim. Following this introduction, parents have an opportunity to visit each classroom and all other Nursery School facilities with the Directors and a current Nursery School parent.  The tour concludes with a question and answer period.

Admissions Panel and Open House for Prospective Parents
All parents applying to the Nursery School at Habonim are invited to attend an open house designed to provide prospective parents with an opportunity to get to know our school better.  The morning begins with an opportunity for prospective parents to visit the classrooms and speak informally with our teachers and continues with a panel discussion hosted by current Nursery School parents.

The panel is a wonderful forum for parents considering our school to meet and hear from parents who already are part of our school community.  Thus, not only will you have the chance to ask questions freely, but you will also be able to get a sense of Habonim, and what it means to be a part of this school, synagogue, and community.  Opening remarks are made by Tina Lobel, Nursery School Director after which the panel is turned over to current and prospective parents!

Play Visits
Once applications have been received and parents have taken a tour of the school, each child comes to Habonim for a one-on-one play visit with their parent or parents and Tina Lobel, Nursery School Director, and Ann Obsatz, Associate Director. Play visits at Habonim are designed with your child’s ease and comfort in mind.  You and your child will have the opportunity to play with and speak to Tina Lobel and Ann Obsatz in our Nursery School office.  Each visit lasts for approximately 20 minutes.

Early Notification Program
The Nursery School at Habonim is a member of the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY).  As a member in good standing, we offer parents who are current members of Congregation Habonim for a minimum of one year, the option to participate in our Early Notification Program.  This means that parents are notified regarding their children’s application for admission a month earlier than other prospects following the completion of all play visits.

Financial Aid
Financial aid is available through our Clara Zeitlin Scholarship Fund.

Final Thoughts about Admissions
The admissions process for nursery school-age children can be overwhelming and stressful for many parents.  At Habonim, we try to make the admissions process as stress-free as possible.  Please feel free to ask questions, take advantage of opportunities to attend Habonim events, and mingle with current Nursery School families.  We look forward to meeting you!
