Parent Involvement

New parents meet individually with the Nursery School's Directors and teachers during the first days of school to discuss their children's stories. There is regular communication throughout the year, including newsletters by the teachers, and a dedicated class e-mail address for specific issues or concerns. During the school year, this site also offers a password-protected section where you can view pictures of your child and their classroom, as well as receive special announcements and find other materials for download.Mother and Daughter The role parents play in the life of the school is one of the great strengths of the Nursery School of Habonim.

We also offer a Parents Group, led by Ann Obsatz, our Associate Director who has more than 35 years of experience in education.  This group allows parents to participate in private discussions or simply listen and reflect on their role as parents. These opportunities provide parents with support as they undertake this most challenging and yet rewarding of jobs. At our school, we prioritize being available for our parents and their needs.

The Nursery School is proud of its active and engaged Parents Association, whose support and involvement is vitally important to the successful completion of the initiatives we undertake, as well as our future growth. The PA has an array of committees, ranging from fundraising to school life, entertainment and social action.

We welcome the input and involvement of parents, and are committed to having a collaborative relationship that complements and celebrates the growth and development of your child.

What parents are saying:

“The Nursery at Habonim is a unique jewel in the city. It is small warm and personal, but also dynamic and vibrant. The minute our daughter walked into the school she felt at home, as did we as part of its wonderful community of parents. Our daughter’s love of learning and exploration of art and music, and of Jewish holidays and rituals, are gifts that Habonim gave her.”

“Our family feels privileged to be part of the Habonim community. From the day we interviewed at the Nursery School, and until the day our daughter graduated, my wife and I were impressed with the professionalism of the staff. Our daughter was truly excited to go to school each day. The classroom projects and lessons stimulated her curiosity and helped her grow socially and intellectually. When she encountered difficulties, the caring and compassion of the classroom faculty got her through them with minimal disruption. We count the families we met through the school amongst our closest friends and continue to remain active in the synagogue. We look forward to the time our youngest becomes old enough to attend Habonim.”

“I can well remember the mix of excitement and anxiety my husband and I felt when we first began applying to pre-schools for our son. Having gone through this experience, we know that choosing a preschool that will provide the best fit for your child and your family is certainly a challenge. For us, Habonim was the right choice. As nursery school parents, we watched our son’s sense of himself, along with his Jewish identity, strongly emerge under the guiding hands of his dedicated teachers, who throughout held a steady course to the attainment of each child’s potential."
