Our parasha, Ki Tetzei, reminds us of how important it is to take care of one another. In speaking of lost objects, the Torah states unequivocally, lo tuchal l'hitaleym/you must not remain indifferent. If this is the case for an animal, clothing, or anything someone loses and we find, all the more so must we turn to face tragedy and devastation and reach out our hand to those in need. This is our call as Jews.
