Register Now for Habonim's Religious School for the 5783/2022-23 School Year!

Shalom Parents

Happy almost-Summer to you all! I am sure some of you are planning for next year, and I look forward to seeing your children back at Habonim’s Religious School in September.

We are in the process of planning for our  coming academic year, 5783 (2022-2023), and it’s important to get crucial information from you about your children. Besides basic contact information, we ask for other details, and we appreciate it when you fill in as much information as possible about medical, emotional, learning, and any other details, differences, challenges or concerns your child has.  If you’d rather schedule a time to talk about your child(ren), or have other questions/concerns, please let me know.

One of our core Jewish values at Habonim is that of Talmud Torah – the study of Torah.  We strive to provide content-rich joyful lessons and programs for our students and families at Habonim.  In order to plan for our incoming Religious School classes, we ask that you register your child(ren) by Tuesday, June 28 For families who register after June 28 there will be an additional $100 Administrative Fee per child added to your bill.  Once you have completed your enrollment forms, the tuition charges will be added to your ShulCloud statement (within 3 weeks or so), and then you have 30 days to pay or make payment plans.

We continue to offer our refer-a-friend bonus tuition incentive program.  We know that our member families are the BEST source of bringing in new members to our congregation. If your family brings in a new member family and they enroll their child(ren) in our Religious School, your family will get $180 off of your total tuition bill, and you can earn more than one bonus if you bring in more than one family (earn up to 2 bonuses). Only one bonus can be earned per new family brought in.  Please email me if you have any questions, or want to connect me with potential members.

If for some reason your child is not returning to our Religious School, please alert us now.

Please complete the registration form for 2022-23 at this link.  The form allows for entry of information for up to 3 children per family.  Membership in the synagogue is required to enroll your child in our Religious School.

Blessing of the Animals

What a great time we had blessing the animals (live and stuffed!)! Animals received rainbow ribbons in honor of Parashat Noah and their uniqueness and diversity. Some even received Hebrew names! We look forward to making this an annual event.

Apple Picking and Sukkot Celebration at Dr. Davies Farm with Congregation Habonim on Sunday, September 26

Habonim Education Director Rina Cohen Schwarz writes:

Our Habonim community members enjoyed celebrating Sukkot together on Sunday, Sept 26.  Our first stop was at Dr Davies Farm to pick many 1/2 pecks of apples.  We harvested several different apple varieties and just loved being outside on a picture-perfect autumn day.

After our successful harvest, we headed to the Orangetown Jewish Center to have a picnic lunch out in their sizable sukkah.  We’re so grateful to our Camp Ramah Nyack friends, all from the OJC: Rabbi Ami Hersh, Rabbi Craig Scheff, Rabbi Paula Mack-Drill and Alyssa Schlossberg for hosting our Habonim group. Truly fabulous hosts who made it possible for  us to fulfill some key mitzvot of Sukkot.

We all got to make the brachot  (blessings) for sitting in the sukkah and over the lulav & etrog. Sweet treats were enjoyed by all and we all look forward to celebrating more holidays together with the Habonim community!
