President Susan Grant's Message - HHD Appeal 5784

Elul, 5783

Dear Friends,

What does it mean to you to be a member of a synagogue like Habonim?

For me, someone who started in Habonim’s Religious School many years ago and never left, membership means so many things –

Doing

  • Engaging in ongoing learning, baking hamantaschen, cleaning up the neighborhood, participating in book clubs, wine tastings and scavenger hunts, and attending auction and casino night parties
  • Attending services to celebrate Shabbat and holidays
  • Serving on the Board and committees
  • Calling people who have lost a loved one to convey the community’s sympathy and support

Donating

  • Helping to sustain Habonim with my contributions, as I have been able

Enjoying the Benefits of Doing and Donating

  • Making and keeping good friends throughout my life
  • Experiencing spiritual and communal connection at services, educational programs, and social gatherings
  • Sharing simchas like our son’s Bar Mitzvah and my mother’s 100th birthday together with my community
  • Drawing comfort from my friends and providing it to them, amid life’s inevitable times of sadness
  • Knowing that I am doing what I can to continue the mission of Habonim’s founders – building Jewish community together and passing on a connection to Judaism, l’dor v’dor, from one generation to the next

I didn’t fully understand when I was a child that Habonim was my extended family, I only realized it later. I shared this gift with my husband and our son, and you can do the same.

Show yourself, your family, and your community what being a Habonim member means to you by supporting us – be present, be active, and help provide us with the means to be the Jewish home we all need.

Many of you make time in your busy lives to volunteer in all the ways it takes to have a thriving synagogue, and for that I am deeply grateful to each and every one of you. We would not – could not – be who we are without you.

But as you know, it takes funding as well as work to sustain any organization. I hope you will make your High Holy Day Appeal contribution here in an amount that feels meaningful and doable for you.

Brian, Alex and I wish you and your loved ones a sweet, kind and healthy 5784, a year in which we can all continue to grow, share, and love.

Susan
